Akechi serves as a rival to Joker of sorts, as he doesn’t agree with the Phantom Thieves and thus works with the police to try to catch them. Let’s start with stuff that aren’t major spoilers.

Goro Akechi (Crow)įor those that have played Persona 5, you can probably guess there’s quite a bit to unpack with Akechi (codenamed Crow). If he was useful for more situations and he was less frustrating, he might rank a bit higher, but I think he sits just fine at #7. However, with his high HP and great brute strength, Ryuji was incredibly helpful for boss fights even in the late game, since bosses typically don’t have many specific elemental weaknesses. His low SP count means he likely won’t be that helpful in standard enemy battles. Yeah, he’s pretty damn dim, but he’s a true bro through and through. Second, while his biggest character growth happens during the Kamoshida arc, his Confidant time also provides him astounding growth and he has a profound moment near the end of the story where his background as a former track star saves everyone. Add to the fact that he is kind of a bonehead and you may question why he ranks slightly higher than Ann.įirst, his outspoken personality means even during story moments that do not directly involve him, his presence is known, be it whether he gets upset at an injustice, or simply just ends up the butt of a joke. Ryuji over Lady Ann?! For real?! Well, Ryuji (codenamed Skull) has a lot of the same issues as Ann as he loses relevancy after the Kamoshida arc, but like Ann, he undergoes incredible character development during this time, though arguably less than Ann. With that out of the way, let’s rank the Phantom Thieves! #10. However, if such a major spoiler is necessary, you will receive warning beforehand. While minor spoilers may be peppered in for discussion purposes, there will be almost no major spoilers for the game’s story. As far as this ranking, they will be based on a character’s usability in battle, overall personality, and their role in both their own personal story as well as the story at large. I could have given this ranking based purely on the original P5, but with Royal introducing the new character, Kasumi Yoshizawa, I thought it prudent to hold off…and man, am I glad I did as she is easily one of the best additions to this already great story.

While Party Members Ranked has gone on a bit of a hiatus, I could think of no better RPG to bring this series back, because I just really needed an excuse to speak my thoughts on this stellar cast, these Phantom Thieves of Heart who managed to steal even my heart. I jumped on the P5 boat rather late, finishing the game days after the release of Persona 5 Royal and yet, I could not wait to jump back in to experience an even better version of this game I already sunk so many hours into. Few JRPG party member casts have the sheer charm that the Persona series has, and Persona 5might just have one of the most charming casts out there.
